Environmental Groups and NGOs Organize Event at Ayluk Pond for World Wetland Day
In honor of World Wetland Day, several environmental groups and non-governmental organizations in Famagusta came together to organize an event at Ayluk Pond, also known as Çanakkale Pond.
The event, which was a joint effort by the Karpaz Friends Association, the Chamber of Landscape Architects, the Independent Youth Association, the Social Existence Association, the Cyprus Wetland Community, and the Always Nature Friends Group, featured a presentation by Environmental Education and Management Specialist Dr. Asuman Korukoğlu.
Dr. Korukoğlu informed the participants about the importance of wetlands and their necessity for a sustainable world. The event also included observations of the wetland by the attendees.
During the event, the six non-governmental organizations issued a joint statement expressing their concerns about the planned construction of a road adjacent to the pond. They emphasized that building the road would make it difficult to protect the pond and suggested using the existing road, which is approximately 100 meters away from the pond. They also announced their commitment to taking the necessary initiatives to address this issue.
The event brought attention to the vital role of wetlands in the ecosystem and highlighted the need for sustainable conservation efforts. The collaboration between the environmental groups and NGOs demonstrates a strong commitment to protecting the Ayluk Pond and preserving its value as a wetland.
