Equal Treatment is Key to Peace and Security on the Island
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Budget Discussed in General Assembly
During the recent session of the General Assembly of the Republic of the Assembly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs budget of 897 million 914 thousand TL was the main topic of discussion. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu took the floor to address the budget and emphasized the importance of equal treatment of parties for maintaining peace and security on the island.
Ertuğruloğlu highlighted the efforts of the Ministry to defend the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people and counter propaganda activities by the Greek Cypriot Administration. He also mentioned the failure of federation negotiations and the announcement of a new state policy in response to current realities.
In the ever-changing international landscape, Ertuğruloğlu stressed the importance of cooperation with global and regional actors. He specifically mentioned Turkey’s role in the region and the need to recognize the TRNC. The Minister also discussed the Ministry’s participation in various international organizations and diplomatic efforts.
The share allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the state budget is 0.6 percent, reflecting the challenges of carrying out activities with limited resources. Ertuğruloğlu acknowledged the dedication of the ministry staff and plans to expand and strengthen the team.
Members of the Assembly, including UBP Deputy Zorlu Töre and CTP Deputy Fikri Toros, also commented on the foreign affairs budget. Töre emphasized the importance of maintaining the TRNC’s sovereignty, while Toros called for increased capacity within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions in the General Assembly shed light on the ongoing efforts to address the Cyprus issue and strengthen diplomatic relations to achieve peace and stability in the region. As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues its work, support from within the Assembly and the Turkish Cypriot community will be crucial in facing the challenges ahead.
