Erhürman announces early election date as December 15

The Republican Turkish Party Chairman, Tufan Erhürman, has called for early elections following recent events in the Parliament. Erhürman, along with CTP MPs, announced that they have submitted a proposal for early elections with the proposed date of December 15, 2024.
In a press conference, Erhürman stated that the current political situation clearly demonstrates that the country is facing governance challenges. He emphasized the need to appeal to the will of the people once again, as the events in the Parliament have shown that expectations from the current structure are not feasible.
Erhürman highlighted the recent debates during the election of the Speaker of the Parliament, pointing out the contradictions in voting patterns. He expressed concerns about the deepening economic and political crisis in the country, stating that the current structure is unsustainable.
“We will not give bonuses to those who are both guilty and powerful. We need to get rid of this structure as soon as possible,” Erhürman stated, emphasizing the urgency of holding early elections to address the chaos in the country.
Despite President Ersin Tatar’s efforts to address the power dynamics in the Parliament, Erhürman asserted that there is no other option but to move forward with early elections at this stage. He also responded to allegations about opening the Assembly with the oldest member, stating that no action could be taken while Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Fazilet Özdenefe, remains in the position.
The call for early elections comes as a response to the challenges facing the governance of the country, with Erhürman advocating for a fresh start to address the ongoing crisis.
