Republican Turkish Party Chairman Tufan Erhürman Talks Minimum Wage and Economic Challenges
In a recent interview on the ‘Manşet +’ program on BRT, Republican Turkish Party Chairman Tufan Erhürman discussed the pressing economic issues facing the country. Erhürman emphasized the importance of applying the minimum wage equally in both the public and private sectors, stating that as the cost of living continues to rise, people’s incomes should also increase accordingly.
One key proposal put forward by Erhürman is the transition to a foreign currency-indexed accounting system while still using the Turkish Lira. He highlighted the difficulties faced by small traders in the private sector in setting prices and managing personnel expenses amidst market price hikes.
Erhürman also expressed concern about the risk of the economy shifting towards the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus due to escalating wages in foreign currency. He noted that the current cycle, where the rising cost of living does not benefit the economy and finances, needs to be addressed.
Addressing the issue of price controls in the market, Erhürman stressed the importance of accurately pricing essential products to ensure people’s hygiene and nutrition standards are maintained. He also highlighted significant challenges in key sectors such as construction, education, and tourism due to ongoing economic pressures.
Commenting on the impact of recent developments in the Middle East and the Mediterranean on politics, Erhürman emphasized the need to create a peaceful environment in the Eastern Mediterranean. He advocated for dialogue and negotiation to achieve political equality and sustainable solutions for the Cyprus issue.
Erhürman concluded by emphasizing the importance of rational decision-making and a focus on achieving tangible results through diplomatic dialogue. He urged for a commitment to peace and stability in the region, rejecting a scenario that would lead to the destruction of society under unpredictable circumstances.
