Establishment of the 827th Honey Forest in Sinop

The Regional Directorate of Forestry in Sinop, Turkey, has recently established a honey forest in the Yandak District of Durağan district with the aim of boosting beekeeping activities in the region. This initiative involved planting 210 fruit saplings in an area covering 20 decares.

Governor Mustafa Özarslan emphasized the importance of honey forests for the future of beekeeping activities and the overall ecological system during the opening ceremony of the honey forest. He highlighted that forests not only provide clean air and scenic beauty but also serve as a crucial source of income for many communities.

Governor Özarslan pointed out that out of the 465 villages in Sinop, only two are not dependent on forests for their livelihood. Therefore, the establishment of the honey forest is a significant step towards supporting forest-based livelihoods in the region. The Regional Directorate of Forestry has taken proactive measures by including various fruit trees such as cherries and mulberries, as well as creating wetlands and stopover areas essential for the bees.

Following his speech, Governor Özarslan inaugurated the honey forest, symbolizing a new chapter in promoting beekeeping activities and environmental conservation in the region. This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and biodiversity, as well as contribute to the sustainability of beekeeping practices in Sinop.
