EU Affairs Minister Urges Guarantee of Peace in Europe by 2024
The European Union Must Guarantee Peace and Security, Says Hungarian Minister
The Minister for European Union affairs, János Bóka, emphasized on Monday the importance of the European Union in ensuring peace and security for Europe. He stated that this was the primary goal of the community’s founding fathers and remains a key expectation of the people in Europe today.
In a video posted on Facebook, Bóka highlighted that Hungary will be taking over the EU presidency during a time of crises. He identified various challenges such as the war in Hungary’s neighboring countries, Europe’s decreasing competitiveness, rising tensions in trade relations within the EU, migration waves, agricultural upheaval, and demographic challenges.
To address these issues, Bóka called for the need for a new European competitiveness pact, a fresh approach to migration, a stronger European security and defense policy, and immediate measures to refocus the common agricultural policy on the European people and farmers.
He also mentioned that the Hungarian presidency would be actively working towards these goals in the second half of the year. Bóka’s statements underscore the EU’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Europe and addressing the pressing challenges facing the region.
