
EU Combat Units Undergo Crisis Response Capabilities Test in Milex 2025

The Milex 2025 International Exercise Visitors’ Day took place at the Pápa Air Base, showcasing the multinational exercise testing the land-based operational capabilities of European Union battle groups. General Gábor Böröndi, the Chief of Defense Staff, highlighted the collaboration of 850 soldiers from 13 nations working together under a common command, language, and way of thinking to ensure the security of the European Union.
The logistical challenge posed by the exercise, with soldiers arriving from afar by road, air, or rail, was also emphasized. General Böröndi noted the successful grouping of forces and equipment, establishing a multinational command led by France and Germany.
The Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, General Robert Brieger, emphasized the commitment and joint efforts of Member States in enhancing the EU’s military readiness to meet evolving geopolitical and security challenges. Milex 2025 demonstrated the EU’s rapid deployment capability, a significant achievement of the strategic compass.
The Pápa Air Base’s transformation into a logistic-military center to host foreign soldiers reflects the continuous improvements in recent decades. General Brieger acknowledged the EU’s rapid response capability as a significant step forward in strengthening crisis management capacity and enhancing Europe’s strategic autonomy.
