
EU Delegation’s Remarkable Visit to the USA

United States President Joe Biden hosted European Union (EU) Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the White House in a tripartite summit. During the meeting, Biden highlighted the revitalization of the partnership between the EU and the USA. He expressed satisfaction, stating, “I think we have fulfilled this commitment in the last two years.”
Biden emphasized the cooperation between the US and EU in supporting Ukraine and Israel. He stated, “We acted together to support the brave people of Ukraine in the face of Putin’s aggression. We acted together to overcome economic difficulties and direct our relationship with China.” Furthermore, Biden mentioned that they are now working together to support Israel after the recent terrorist attack by Hamas.
The upcoming meeting will focus on discussing the situations in Israel and Ukraine. Biden expressed eagerness to evaluate the full potential of the partnership and collaborate on initiatives such as clean energy transition. Additionally, topics such as unfairly traded steel and aluminum imports, ongoing critical mineral negotiations, and artificial intelligence will be on the agenda.
During the summit, EU Council President Charles Michel emphasized the special bond and friendship between the USA and the EU. He emphasized the need for a strong EU-US partnership to address the significant challenges the world is facing. Michel acknowledged the tragic conflict in the Middle East, expressing gratitude to President Biden for his personal involvement and efforts to create a positive impact.
Michel condemned the terrorist attack against Israel by Hamas and stressed that Israel has the right to defend itself according to international law. He also emphasized the urgency to meet the needs of defenseless people in Palestine and restart the peace process based on a two-state solution. The EU Council President reiterated their commitment to work towards promoting the transition.
President Ursula von der Leyen thanked President Biden for his visit to Israel and highlighted the importance of solidarity with Israel. She condemned the barbaric acts and the impact they had on Israeli society. Von der Leyen emphasized that Israel has the right to self-defense and expressed concern about regional tensions, particularly regarding Iran and its supporters.
Furthermore, Leyen mentioned their continued focus on supporting the Ukrainian people. She expressed gratitude for the support the USA has provided to Ukraine and emphasized the EU’s significant support of over 82 billion Euros to Ukraine. Leyen pledged to continue this strong support.
