EU Pressures Lead TDT States to Open Southern Representative Offices

Meeting Highlights between President Tatar and Nobel Laureate Aziz Sancar
In a significant video meeting, President Ersin Tatar engaged with Nobel Prize-winning Turkish scientist, Professor Aziz Sancar. The discussion focused on the ongoing challenges faced by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in its relations with the European Union (EU).
During the meeting, President Tatar emphasized that the TRNC has achieved observer member status within the Organization of the Turkish States. However, he pointed out ongoing obstacles posed by the EU, which, he claims, is acting under the influence of the Greek Cypriot leadership. Tatar criticized the EU for allegedly violating its own criteria due to political interests, ultimately undermining the rights of the Turkish Cypriots.
"The Greek leadership has the power to exercise veto rights within the EU on various matters, continuing to victimise the Turkish Cypriot community," Tatar stated. He lamented the lack of representation for Turkish Cypriots in Hungary, attributing this to the pro-Greek policies of the EU. "The EU has lost its ability to play a constructive role in Cyprus with this approach," he declared.
Tatar also addressed the representation of some member states of the Turkish States Organization in Southern Cyprus, attributing this to external pressures from the EU.
Despite the injustices faced, President Tatar reaffirmed his commitment: "We will press on without hesitation, working tirelessly towards a two-state solution."
In a show of collaboration, Professor Sancar confirmed his plans to attend an upcoming meeting of the Turkish States Organization in Budapest, where he pledged to convey Tatar’s message to the Turkish states.
Joining them in the discussion was Dr. Nedime Serakıncı, the Presidential Health Advisor and a protégé of Professor Sancar, further solidifying the ties between science, health, and political advocacy in the region.
This meeting not only highlights the ongoing struggles of the TRNC on the international stage but also showcases the importance of maintaining dialogue and collaboration among Turkish states to address these challenges effectively.
