Evaluation of Measures Against Mpox Outbreak Under Minister Dinçyürek’s Leadership – BRTK
Minister of Health Warns of Mpox Virus Spread
After a recent evaluation meeting chaired by the Minister of Health Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek, it has been revealed that the Mpox (monkeypox) virus is a viral infection that primarily spreads through close contact among humans. Minister Dinçyürek shared important details regarding the ways in which the Mpox virus can be transmitted.
According to the Minister, the Mpox virus can spread through various means, including person-to-person contact through touching, kissing, sexual intercourse, or close contact with an infected individual. It can also be transmitted from infected animals to humans, as well as through contaminated materials such as sheets, towels, clothing, or needles. Additionally, pregnant women are at risk of passing the virus to their unborn babies during pregnancy.
Minister Dinçyürek emphasized that symptoms of Mpox typically appear around 14 days after infection, ranging from 6-21 days. Therefore, screening individuals without symptoms may not be effective. Diagnosis of the disease involves a PCR test of the fluid in the rash, with symptoms including a rash lasting 2-4 weeks, fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, and swollen lymph nodes.
In case of severe symptoms, hospitalization may be necessary, but the Minister assured that necessary drugs for treatment are available within the Ministry of Health. Efforts are underway to increase drug stocks in preparation for a potential large-scale epidemic. Vaccination is recommended for individuals in high-risk groups and those who have been in close contact with confirmed Mpox patients worldwide.
Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the Mpox virus and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms. Stay informed and follow health guidelines to protect yourself and your community against this infectious disease.
