Examining Peace Talks from a Hungarian Perspective

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized the importance of assessing the peace negotiations in connection with the Ukraine war from a Hungarian perspective. In his reply to the parliamentary groups in Parliament on Monday, he stated that a peace agreement is crucial to guarantee the security of Hungary and Europeans.
Orbán noted that Hungary and the Vatican have been advocating for peace since the beginning of the conflict, and now the United States has also joined this stance. Responding to critics who accused the governing parties of being pro-Russian, he pointed out that by supporting peace negotiations, the United States is also indirectly accused of being pro-Russian.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to view the peace negotiations and agreements through a Hungarian lens. He highlighted that the primary concern should be the security of Hungary, rather than focusing solely on Ukraine’s independence and interests.
Orbán emphasized that any peace agreement should ensure Hungary’s security, especially if Ukraine remains a buffer state and the attempt to bring them into NATO fails. The main goal is to secure the safety of Hungarians through any arrangements made for Ukraine.
Ultimately, the Hungarian perspective on the peace negotiations and agreements remains centered on securing the nation’s safety and contributing to the stability of Europe.
