Exploring the Late Pope’s Vatican Quarters

Pope Franciscus Passes Away at 88
Yesterday morning, the world was shocked to hear the news of Pope Franciscus passing away at the age of 88. The Vatican immediately initiated the process outlined in church law following the Pope’s death. Vatican News confirmed the declaration of death was read aloud at 20:00 and the funeral preparations began.
In the wake of Pope Franciscus’ passing, the “Kamerico” (Papal Authority Deputy) assumed control to oversee the transition until the next Pope is selected. The Vatican State Secretary, Cardinal Parolin, and Archbishop Edgar Pena Par sealed the rooms of Pope Franciscus’ residence and enforced strict protocols.
Under the supervision of Kamengo Cardinal Farrell, the symbolic “Fisherman Ring”, representing the papal seal, was destroyed to signify the beginning of the “Sede Vacante” period, meaning the papal seat is empty according to church law. The Vatican’s official website also updated its status to reflect the vacancy of the papal seat.
In the upcoming days, the Cardinals Congress (Ministry) will convene to make decisions regarding Pope Franciscus’ funeral arrangements. It is anticipated that the funeral ceremony will be determined during this meeting.
Pope Franciscus had been battling health issues for some time, including a recent hospitalization for pneumonia. Despite being discharged on March 23, the Pope’s health continued to decline, leading to his passing on April 21 at 07:35 local time. The Vatican confirmed that the cause of death was a stroke, coma, and irreversible heart failure.
As the world mourns the loss of Pope Franciscus, attention has turned to the selection of the next Pope and the future of the Catholic Church. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
