Exploring the Many Venues of Budapest Design Week for Arts Enthusiasts

The Budapest Design Week has kicked off with a bang, showcasing over 100 venues across Budapest, Sopron, and Pécs. From temporary exhibitions to workshops and guided tours, the event promises to be a haven for anyone interested in the creative industries. Running until October 20, there’s plenty of time to explore the offerings.
During the festival’s press event, Regő Lánszki, national architect and State Secretary for Architecture, emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between architecture and design. Starting in 2025, a portion of public investments will be allocated to fine or applied art, with the condition that the works are seamlessly integrated into buildings.
Zsófia Jakab, Ministerial Commissioner and CEO of the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency (HFDA), expressed optimism about Budapest Design Week’s potential to elevate Hungary and Budapest’s stature in the creative industry regionally.
Aside from the programs in the capital, Sopron and Pécs will also host their own events. Sopron Design Week, now in its ninth iteration, will showcase the best of local design, while DesignPécs will shine a spotlight on Baranya County’s hidden design gems.
One of the highlights of Budapest Design Week’s opening was the presentation of the EDIDA Hungary awards by ELLE Decoration magazine. Recognizing exceptional works in Hungarian design, the EDIDA Hungary awards align with the international EDIDA (ELLE DECO International Design Awards) held in Milan earlier this year.
360 Design Budapest, the festival’s central exhibition, will feature top-notch Hungarian and regional design at the former waiting room of Nyugati Railway Station from October 15 to 20. The event aims to underscore design’s impact on everyday life and provide a platform for regional designers to showcase their talent globally.
Art Market Budapest, the premier international contemporary art fair in Central and Eastern Europe, will run from October 17 to 20 at Millenáris. With over 100 exhibitors from 30 countries, the event promises a diverse selection of cutting-edge contemporary art.
Budapest Design Week is not just a celebration of creativity but also a testament to Hungary’s growing presence in the global design and art scene. Don’t miss out on this exciting showcase of talent and innovation!
