Eymen Baby: The 7th Case in History with No Chance of Survival

Historic Medical Success: Baby Eymen’s Remarkable Journey
In a remarkable medical case that has captivated many, a baby named Mehmet Eymen has been delivered successfully after facing life-threatening complications due to a tumor found on his neck during his mother’s 32nd week of pregnancy. Fatma Kara, Eymen’s mother, was under the careful monitoring of her medical team at Kütahya City Hospital when the tumor was discovered, obstructing her baby’s airways.
A multidisciplinary team of specialists, including obstetricians, pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, and otorhinolaryngologists, promptly devised an operation plan aimed at preserving the life of the unborn child. Fatma gave birth via cesarean section in the 34th week of pregnancy. The newborn, initially named Mehmet Eymen, was found to be intubated due to the critical airway blockage caused by the tumor.
Following a swift 12-minute intervention that ensured Eymen’s immediate survival, he was moved to the newborn intensive care unit (NICU). Six weeks later, after stabilizing his condition, the medical team conducted a successful operation to remove a 445-gram tumor that was constricting his airway.
Dr. Tayfun Aydin, an anesthesiology specialist at the hospital, confirmed that Eymen’s case is only the seventh of its kind in the world, highlighting the critical nature of the surgery. Reflecting on their success, Dr. Aydin stated, “If we had not performed this life-saving procedure, this baby would not have had a chance."
Weighing 3.7 kilograms at birth, Eymen is now progressing well and is expected to be discharged shortly, much to the relief and joy of his family. Newborn specialist Dr. Musa Turgut emphasized the rarity of such a medical disorder, noting its historically dire implications for infants.
Fatma Kara expressed her profound gratitude to the medical team, saying, “We are very happy right now… it’s a very bad situation for a mother. So I wish no one has to experience what I went through.”
The road ahead looks promising for baby Eymen, who has not only defied the odds but also written a significant chapter in medical history.
