Book Launch of "Vortex" by Faize Erdoğan Celebrates Disability Empowerment
In a significant event held at the Presidential Campus, the launch of Faize Erdoğan’s book titled "Vortex" took center stage, supported by the Presidency. The gathering aimed not only to unveil the book but also to highlight advancements in disability rights and advocacy.
Ahmet Akdeniz, President of the Disabled Committee, opened the event by emphasizing the committee’s commitment to ensuring meaningful participation of disabled individuals in all aspects of society. He remarked that considerable progress has been made, particularly noting the achievements of the wheelchair basketball team as a testament to what people with disabilities can accomplish when given the proper opportunities.
Addressing the audience, Erdoğan shared the inspiration behind his book. He described his work as a reflection of the challenges he faced during difficult times, likening those experiences to being caught in a "vortex." He expressed gratitude to his loved ones who helped him navigate out of those turbulent moments.
Sibel Tatar, wife of President Ersin Tatar, praised Erdoğan as a role model. She pointed out that anyone could face disabilities at some point in life and highlighted Erdoğan’s dedication to supporting the disabled community post-accident. She emphasized the importance of following up on the findings from the Disabled Rights Workshop, expressing concern over the passive responses from some institutions involved.
President Tatar noted that this event marked the first program held in the new hall at the Presidential Campus. He acknowledged the struggle faced by approximately 6,000 disabled individuals in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring they receive the support they deserve. Tatar congratulated Erdoğan on his book while also announcing that proceeds from the sales would be donated to the Turkish Cypriot Orthopedic Disabled Association.
The launch event exemplified a collective aspiration for inclusivity and activism within the community, reinforcing the belief in the potential of individuals with disabilities when provided with the right resources and support.
