Famagusta Mayor Süleyman Uluçay recently celebrated completing his one-year term of office by announcing that he had managed to close a debt of 99 million 215 thousand TL during this time. He also stated that the retroactive Social Insurance and Provident Fund investments of the employees were completed and savings exceeding 50 million TL were achieved.

At a press conference held in Paradise Park in Nicosia with the slogan “Famagusta Municipality is Working,” Uluçay thanked the members of the Municipal Council and the municipality’s employees for their hard work and dedication.

Detailing the municipality’s financial situation, Uluçay noted that the debt was reduced from 181 million 987 thousand TL on December 31, 2022, to 82 million 772 thousand TL as of December 31, 2023. He emphasized that this was due to measures taken and thanked those who provided voluntary financial consultancy.

In addition to paying off the debt, Uluçay highlighted other cost-saving measures that were implemented during his term, including timely payments resulting in an annual saving of 1.2 million TL. The municipality also terminated certain services provided by private companies, resulting in significant annual savings.

Looking ahead, Uluçay shared his goals for the new term, including completing the long-standing sewerage project and making improvements to roads and sidewalks. He also outlined plans for various cultural and environmental projects to be implemented in the coming year.

When asked about the issue of public beaches, Uluçay emphasized that beaches should be accessible to everyone. He stated that efforts are being made to have the beaches operated publicly by the municipality, making them the most easily accessible beaches in the country.
