
Famagusta Municipality Organizes Events in Celebration of International Working Women’s Day

Famagusta Municipality Celebrates International Working Women’s Day with Various Events
On March 8, International Working Women’s Day, Famagusta Municipality organized a series of events to support the struggle for women’s rights. The municipality announced that various productions by women’s organizations would be showcased at the Women’s Labor Market on March 8 at 12:00 in the Famagusta Arena. In addition to the productions, a workshop was held and a cocktail event was organized for female municipality employees who were given administrative leave starting from 12:00.
Famagusta Mayor Süleyman Uluçay also attended the events, visited the stands, and celebrated International Women’s Day with the participants. Later in the day, various activities were scheduled at Famagusta Arena, including a concert by the Freedom of Expressive Voices Women’s Choir, a play by the Cyprus Open Theater titled “Let Femininity Stay with Us”, a folk dance performance by the Famagusta Municipality Folk Dances Community Masters Group, and a concert by the Cihan Tunceli Band Group.
The Municipality further supported the women’s day organization organized by the Famagusta Cultural Association at Bandabuliya. The association’s choir performed a concert, and a silent book reading event was held where books donated by the Historical Dialogue and Research Association were given to local schools.
During his speech at the event, Mayor Süleyman Uluçay emphasized the importance of women’s rights and human rights, stating that peace, tranquility, and prosperity are universal desires of humanity. He expressed his commitment to promoting unity and solidarity in Famagusta through cultural and artistic activities.
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Deputy Fazilet Özdenefe and Famagusta Cultural Association President Sermin İyican also made speeches at the event, highlighting the importance of women’s involvement in decision-making processes and peace initiatives. They both expressed their support for women’s rights and pledged to continue advocating for gender equality.
Overall, the International Working Women’s Day events organized by Famagusta Municipality and various organizations served as a platform to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about gender equality, and promote solidarity among community members.
