Family of Merve’s Murderer Issues Horrifying Threat: ‘I Will Collect Your Blood in Bottles’
On August 20, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Kayhan District involving Yusuf Söylemez and his cousin Hasan Söylemez. The meeting between the two turned into a violent confrontation due to alleged animosity between Hasan and Buse Simay Karakaya, Yusuf’s girlfriend. Yusuf Söylemez, accompanied by several individuals including Emircan Uyar, Muhammet Söylemez, Furkan Aygün, İsmail Bağlan, Tolga Gök, and Buse Simay Karakaya, confronted Hasan Söylemez in a park.
During the altercation, Hasan Söylemez wounded Yusuf Söylemez with a knife before fleeing and seeking refuge in a nearby market. Yusuf Söylemez pursued Hasan with a shotgun, firing shots at Merve Acar, a cashier at the market, and ultimately at Hasan Söylemez. Both Merve Acar and Hasan Söylemez sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Pamukkale University Hospital. Tragically, Merve Acar succumbed to her injuries despite the efforts of medical staff.
Following the incident, Yusuf Söylemez and his associates fled the scene. The subsequent trial at Denizli 4th High Criminal Court resulted in Yusuf Söylemez being sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for intentional murder against a woman and 13 years for attempted intentional murder. The other defendants were also handed prison sentences for their roles in the violent altercation.
In a distressing turn of events, Yusuf Söylemez’s family members received threatening messages and calls referencing the brutal murders of women in Istanbul. The threats prompted Yusuf’s sister and brother-in-law to file a criminal complaint, expressing their fear and concern for their safety. The family reiterated the importance of justice and the rule of law in addressing such threats and ensuring their safety.
