Fatal Week on the Roads: 69 Accidents, 2 Dead, 18 Injured, 4 Million TL in Damages

69 traffic accidents occurred last week in the TRNC, resulting in 2 deaths and 18 injuries. The total material damage from these accidents was reported to be 4 million 145 thousand.

During the inspections conducted between March 10 and March 16, a total of 17,380 vehicle drivers were checked, leading to legal proceedings being initiated against 3,001 drivers. Among the reported drivers, nearly a thousand were found to be speeding, resulting in 213 vehicles being banned from traffic and 7 drivers being arrested.

The traffic report released by the Police Press Officer revealed that out of the 69 accidents, 55 resulted in damage. The main causes of these accidents included speeding, careless driving, failure to maintain a safe following distance, and failure to yield at intersections. The accidents were distributed across different districts, with 20 in Nicosia, 5 in Famagusta, 32 in Kyrenia, 5 in Güzelyurt, and 7 in İskele.

Additionally, legal action was taken against 50 drivers found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, while 27 drivers were caught driving without a license. Furthermore, 215 drivers were reported for speeding detected by mobile vehicles, and numerous drivers were cited for various traffic violations such as driving dangerously, disregarding traffic signs, and driving without proper documentation.

In total, 3,001 drivers faced legal consequences for their violations, with 213 vehicles being banned from traffic and 7 drivers being arrested. These measures are part of efforts to ensure road safety and reduce the number of accidents on the streets of the TRNC.
