Fidesz Budapest Mayoral Candidate Calls for Cooperation with Government
Alexandra Szentkirályi, the candidate of the ruling Fidesz party for mayor of Budapest, is pushing for a closer cooperation and dialogue between the leadership of Budapest and the central government to transform the capital city into a cleaner, safer, and more orderly place.
To further this goal, Szentkirályi recently met with Sándor Pintér, the interior minister, to discuss public safety, the city’s transport services, the issue of homelessness, and the challenges posed by the inner city’s “party quarter”.
Szentkirályi emphasized the need for collaboration between the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) and FORI, the authority responsible for the city’s public security. She pointed out that the duration of joint patrols between these two authorities had significantly decreased over the years, from 37,000 hours in 2019 to just 2,022 hours in 2023.
Regarding transport services, Szentkirályi called for ensuring the safety of drivers and cyclists, highlighting the importance of safe transportation options for all.
In addition, she criticized the current leadership of Budapest for not taking action to address the issue of homelessness. Szentkirályi called for better care and support for the homeless population, aiming to help them reintegrate into society and secure employment opportunities.
Furthermore, Szentkirályi addressed the public safety concerns surrounding the nightlife in the inner city’s “party quarter” and promised to present proposals to tackle this issue in the coming weeks.
