Fidesz Group Leader Calls for Total Ban on Foreign Media Financing
In a recent statement, Fidesz parliamentary group leader Máté Kocsis has called for a complete ban on media financing from abroad, citing the recent USAID scandal as just the beginning of a larger issue. Kocsis took to Facebook to express his concerns about what he described as an “international corruption network” that is influencing Hungarian politics and media through foreign funding.
According to Kocsis, foreign taxpayers’ money is being used to support individuals and organizations that promote what he calls “extremist liberal ideology” and engage in “anti-government activities”. He believes that these actions represent a serious intrusion into Hungary’s domestic affairs and should not be tolerated.
Kocsis suggested that the best way to address this issue would be to prohibit all foreign financing of media in Hungary. He proposed making this prohibition a permanent rule to prevent any further interference from outside sources.
As more information comes to light about the extent of foreign influence in Hungarian media and politics, Kocsis’s call for a total ban on foreign media financing may gain support from other members of the Fidesz party. It remains to be seen how this issue will be addressed in the coming months.
