Turkish Cypriot and Turkish Protocol Signs For More Effective Trade and Customs

The Minister of Finance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Özdemir Berova, has announced that a new protocol has been signed with Turkey to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of customs. This move aims to streamline trade transactions and prevent unregistered trade and loss of tax revenue.

The protocol is expected to bring about more effective and faster trade transactions at the customs of both countries. Minister Berova expressed his optimism that this agreement will lead to significant improvements in customs procedures between Turkey and TRNC.

In his statement commemorating World Customs Day, Berova extended his congratulations to the customs community and emphasized the importance of customs procedures for the peace, security, and health of the country, as well as their contribution to the economy.

Furthermore, Minister Berova highlighted the steps taken to address deficiencies in personnel and vehicles at the ports, as well as the implementation of a new customs automation system. He also revealed plans to install two new technology X-ray devices in Kyrenia and Famagusta ports before the end of 2024, in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of Commerce.

The ultimate goal, as articulated by Minister Berova, is to protect the country from potential security, economic, and public health risks posed by illegal entry and exit of goods while also ensuring the holistic security of customs operations.

The new protocol between Turkey and TRNC marks a significant milestone in enhancing trade and customs cooperation, and is poised to bring about positive changes in cross-border trade transactions and customs procedures.
