Ankara Launches Investigation into Fire Department Personnel Following Tragic Incident
In Ankara, a tragic incident involving the death of 13-year-old Beren Su Bolat has sparked a judicial and administrative investigation into the fire department personnel responsible for the rescue operation. The young girl was trapped in an elevator along with a friend between the 5th and 6th floors, and unfortunately lost her life when she fell into the elevator shaft during the rescue attempt.
Upon receiving a report of the trapped individuals, the fire department arrived on the scene and began working to free the occupants. Tragically, Beren Su fell into the shaft and lost her life while her friend was successfully rescued. An expert report on the incident has prompted the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to initiate a judicial investigation for “causing death by negligence”, while the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) has launched an administrative investigation into the conduct of the fire department personnel involved.
A photograph taken during the rescue operation has been included in the investigation file, showing Beren Su in a precarious position while a fire department member appears to be holding a thermos instead of properly securing the young girl. The ABB has stated that they will follow all legal procedures meticulously and implement any necessary measures should the responsibility for the incident lie with the municipality.
The family of Beren Su has spoken out about the incident, with her uncle denouncing the actions of the fire department personnel as negligent. He recounted how they ignored advice from onlookers and failed to properly secure the young girl during the rescue attempt, leading to her tragic death.
This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of proper training and adherence to safety protocols in emergency situations. As the investigations continue, authorities are working to determine accountability and ensure that such a tragedy does not occur again in the future.
