Firefighter Week kicks off with procession in Nicosia

A march was held in Nicosia as part of Firefighters’ Week, which is celebrated to raise awareness about fire safety. The event, which took place on Mehmet Akif Street, was attended by the Speaker of the Assembly Zorlu Töre, Fire Chief Ramadan Gürpınar, Police General Directorate (PGM) 1st Deputy Ali Adalıer, PGM officials, firefighters, and their families.

The march, accompanied by fire trucks and the Security Forces Command Band, started from the Pronto circle and ended at the Citröen intersection. The route was closed to traffic during the march.

President Zorlu Töre emphasized the critical role that the fire department plays in not only fighting fires but also in handling all kinds of disasters. He highlighted the diversified duties of the fire department and praised the strong institutional structures in the TRNC.

Fire Chief Ramadan Gürpınar also addressed the audience and spoke about the objectives of Firefighters’ Week, which include raising awareness about fire safety precautions and disaster protection methods.

The events for Firefighters’ Week will continue until October 1, with various activities planned such as TV and radio programs, distribution of informative brochures on fire safety, fire training for students, and a volleyball tournament between different departments. Additionally, a blood donation campaign will be held on October 1 to contribute to the increasing need for blood.

As the week of celebrations continues, the focus remains on raising awareness about fire safety and honoring the dedication and service of firefighters in protecting the community.
