The highly anticipated Budapest fireworks are set to go ahead as planned, starting at 9 PM. Zoltán Kovács, who leads the operational task force, made the announcement on Tuesday evening after closely monitoring weather conditions throughout the day.
In a Facebook post, Kovács stated that the latest forecasts indicate favourable weather conditions over Budapest in the evening, allowing the St. Stephen’s Day fireworks to proceed as scheduled. However, the task force is prepared to act swiftly in case of any sudden unfavourable weather changes and will provide timely updates to the public.
Earlier in the afternoon, HungaroMet issued a thunderstorm alert for the capital, causing uncertainty about the fate of the fireworks display. Despite initial expectations for a decision by 3:00 PM, a clear stance could not be reached by 5:00 PM.
While a weather alert remains in effect for Budapest, there is hope that conditions will improve by the time the fireworks are set to light up the sky at 9:00 PM. The safety of the public remains the top priority for the operational task force.
