The Importance of Fishermen in TRNC
The fishing industry is an essential part of the economy in TRNC, providing jobs and a valuable food source for the population. With a variety of fish such as Voppa, Barbun, Mackerel, Coral, and more available at fish stalls, it is clear that fish plays a significant role in the daily diet of many people.
One particular fish that is currently in abundance this season is Voppa, showing the fertility of the species. Despite the challenges faced by fishermen, including marine pollution, dolphin interference, high costs, and insufficient support and incentives, they continue to work hard to provide fresh fish to the community.
Kemal Atakan, the President of the Fishermen’s Association of TRNC, highlighted the struggles that fishermen face and the importance of supporting this vital industry.
