Five Arrested in Crime Organization Operation in Istanbul
15 suspects who were detained by the Istanbul Organized Crime Branch Directorate have been taken to court after being accused of organizing armed attacks by threatening business owners. The suspects, who were involved in a criminal organization, underwent procedures at the police station before being taken to court following a medical check-up.
Out of the 15 suspects, 10 were released under judicial control provisions, while the remaining 5 were arrested and sent to prison.
The operation against the criminal organization, which was led by Z.A. and was responsible for multiple actions in Bağcılar and surrounding districts, including deliberate killing, attempted deliberate killing, deliberate wounding, aggravated looting, deprivation of liberty, and threat, was carried out by the Istanbul Police Department’s Combating Organized Crimes Branch on March 1.
During the investigation, it was discovered that E.A., one of the organization’s managers, had threatened 12 business owners in Bağcılar and carried out armed attacks on 4 workplaces. One of the attacks resulted in a police officer being slightly injured in the head while sitting in a cafe with his brother. As a result, an operation was conducted to apprehend the suspects.
In total, 15 individuals were taken into custody during the operation, and police found 3 unlicensed guns and ammunition during searches at the suspects’ residences. The investigation into the criminal organization and its activities is still ongoing.
