Flights to Istanbul Canceled Until Further Notice, Sofi Aviation Department Director Announces

Flights in Ercan Affected by Istanbul Snowfall

The recent heavy snowfall in Istanbul has not only caused chaos in the city but has also had a ripple effect on flights in Ercan. Civil Aviation Department Director Mustafa Sofi recently spoke on BRT 1 TV’s 18th-hour program, highlighting the issues faced by Ercan Airport due to the snowfall in Istanbul.

According to Sofi, both Ercan and Istanbul airports have had to cancel flights due to the adverse weather conditions. He mentioned that the cancellations started yesterday and are expected to continue until Sunday, February 23. Sofi also noted that Istanbul’s airports, including Sabiha Gökçen, will face disruptions in the next three to four days.

Despite the cancellations, Sofi commended the efforts of airline companies such as THY and Pegasus Airlines in providing passengers with advanced information about the flight disruptions. He assured that there have been no major issues at Ercan Airport as a result.

Sofi explained that while the airports in Istanbul are still operational, there have been fewer flights due to heavy snow and some flights have been consolidated. He emphasized that safety remains the top priority in aviation and wished all passengers a safe journey.

As the snowfall continues to impact air travel in Turkey, passengers are advised to stay informed about any flight changes and to plan accordingly.
