Turkey Holds Critical Election: President Erdogan Addresses Nation
Turkey held a critical election on Sunday with 91.93 percent of the ballot boxes opened, according to the latest information released. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke on a balcony at the AK Party Headquarters, delivering the traditional speech that follows poll results.
Erdogan’s speech was carefully followed by the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, where supporters watched his speech and the moment was captured by photojournalist Hakan Akgün.
The temporary results showed that Erdogan didn’t get the confidence vote he expected from society and that the demand for change is above 50 percent, according to CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Kılıçdaroğlu thanked the voters who came to the ballot box, especially young people and women, for their high participation rates.
Despite all the slander and insults, Erdogan didn’t reach the result he wanted, Kılıçdaroğlu said. “Nobody should get too excited about the fait accompli. The election cannot be won on the balcony.”
Kılıçdaroğlu promised that the CHP would make every effort to bring “right, law, and justice” to the country, assuring the people that the party would win and bring democracy to Turkey.
