“Following Italy, Germany visit brings peace to critical summit”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy held a bilateral meeting in Berlin, Germany, where they both emphasized their commitment to supporting Ukraine until the end. Scholz announced that Germany’s support to Ukraine has reached 17 billion euros, including the recently announced 2.7 billion euro worth of military aid. Zelenskiy thanked Germany for their help and for opening their doors to the nearly one million Ukrainians who fled to Germany due to Russian occupation.
Zelenskiy also met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, where he wrote in the guest book at the Bellevue Palace that Germany is a “true friend and reliable ally” of Ukraine. He was also honored with the Charlemagne Award, given to those who contribute to the unity of Europe, during his German contacts.
The trip was leaked by the Berlin police, but it still took place after Zelenskiy’s visit to Italy, where he also met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Pope Francis. During the joint press conference in Germany, Scholz emphasized that Ukraine is ready for peace but that there can be no peace dictated by Russia. Overall, the meeting served to strengthen the relationship between Germany and Ukraine and to bolster support for Ukraine in its ongoing dispute with Russia.
