Food Committee Holds Emergency Meeting

The Food and Agricultural Product Markets Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, led by Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, met yesterday to address the latest developments in global and domestic agricultural commodity and food prices. The meeting was attended by Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, Presidential Strategy and Budget Director İbrahim Şenel, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Governor Fatih Karahan, as well as relevant deputy ministers and institutional representatives.
During the meeting, the progress made in previous decisions taken by the Committee was reviewed, along with the work carried out by the “sub-committee” at the deputy minister level. The focus was on evaluating the supply and demand status of agricultural products, product-based needs, and the ongoing 2024 harvest season. Discussions also centered on addressing current issues and proposing solutions to protect producers and enhance their products under more favorable conditions.
One of the key points highlighted during the meeting was the commitment to implementing all necessary measures, including foreign trade measures, to maintain the supply and demand balance in agricultural products in Turkey. The goal is to safeguard the interests of producers and citizens alike. The Committee also decided to initiate studies aimed at increasing the current storage capacity to support the supply and demand balance in storable products.
The statement from the meeting underscored the Committee’s dedication to contributing to the disinflation process by effectively coordinating efforts across all relevant institutions. These ongoing efforts demonstrate a concerted approach to addressing challenges within the food and agricultural product markets, with a focus on protecting the interests of producers and ensuring sustainable supply and demand dynamics.
