Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Öncü Keçeli, has provided an explanation following the Cyprus meeting that took place in Geneva. The expanded format 5+1 informal meeting on Cyprus was held in Switzerland, where discussions focused on finding a final solution to the longstanding Cyprus issue.
During the meeting, which took place on 17-18 March 2025, representatives from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Greek Cypriot Greek Administration (GKRY) discussed various important topics. These included the opening of new crossing points, the removal of mines from the island, environmental and climate change issues, solar energy utilization in the region, restoration of cemeteries, and the establishment of a technical committee for organization purposes.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to develop good neighborly relations between the two states on the island. As a result, it was decided to hold a second non-gentleman meeting at the end of July to further progress discussions and cooperation between the parties.
