Foreign Currency Now Accepted at Banks
The Banks Association of Türkiye (TBB) has announced that banks will begin accepting foreign currency banknotes after a temporary suspension. The decision to temporarily halt accepting foreign currency in US dollars was made in light of the detection of fake $100 and $50 bills circulating in the market. This suspension allowed banks to update their ATMs and money counting machines to ensure the security of both customers and banks.
In a statement released by TBB, it was confirmed that the updates to foreign currency banknote counting and foreign exchange control machines have been largely completed. As a result, banks are now able to resume accepting foreign currency banknotes.
The statement from the Banks Association addressed the hesitations that arose among banks regarding the acceptance of foreign currency banknotes. It emphasized that the security measures put in place through the updates to machines were necessary to protect both customers and banks.
