Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu Emphasizes Turkish Unity and Integration
In a recent statement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu highlighted the importance of unity within the Turkish world, stating that it is a large family that is gradually reintegrating. Ertuğruloğlu’s remarks came during a meeting with President Sevinç Oruçeva of the Azerbaijan Victory Martyrs’ Families Association and the children of Karabakh martyrs aged between 17-22, who were visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for a summer school program hosted by Girne American University (GAÜ).
During his speech, Minister Ertuğruloğlu emphasized the shared heritage and identity of the Turkish nation, stating, “We may be different states, but we are the same nation. One nation, three states. Hopefully, these three states will become eight in time.” He also highlighted the TRNC’s role as an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States (TDT) and expressed optimism that the Turkic world is coming closer together after years of separation.
Reflecting on the Cyprus issue, Minister Ertuğruloğlu explained the status dilemma, where Greek Cypriots are granted rights they do not have, while Turkish Cypriots are marginalized as a community. He drew parallels to other conflict zones like Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Gaza, underscoring the resilience of Turkish Cypriots during the years of brutality they endured between 1963 and 1974.
Highlighting the pivotal role of Turkey in supporting the Turkish Cypriot cause, Ertuğruloğlu declared, “Our greatest chance is that our motherland Turkey is with us. It will be with us forever. It is out of the question to step back from our just cause.” He also extended congratulations to the success of the Karabakh football team.
President Sevinç Oruçeva of the Azerbaijan Victory Martyrs’ Families Association echoed Ertuğruloğlu’s sentiments, emphasizing the solidarity between Azerbaijan and the TRNC in commemorating their shared history of resistance and suffering. She highlighted the importance of mutual visits and exchanges between the two nations to foster a deeper understanding of each other’s struggles.
In conclusion, the meeting between Minister Ertuğruloğlu and President Oruçeva exemplified the strong bonds and unity among Turkish communities, paving the way for greater collaboration and integration within the Turkish world.
