Foreign Ministry Condemns France for Violating Airspace – BRTK
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong condemnation towards the French warplanes stationed in Paphos for violating the TRNC airspace and flying low in the Lefke region. According to the statement released by the Ministry, the French warplanes, which are deployed in Paphos as part of a Defense Cooperation Agreement signed between the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and France in 2017, breached the country’s airspace on December 20, posing a risk to human life.
The act of the planes flying at a low altitude in the Lefke region has caused significant concern among the public, and the violation by France has been met with strong disapproval. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the severity of the situation and stressed that such actions by France are unacceptable.
The statement further highlighted the ongoing bilateral military agreements between the Greek Cypriot side and various countries, leading to increased tension in the region under the false pretext of a “security threat” on the island. The Ministry made it clear that any military support or cooperation provided to the Greek Cypriot administration must not jeopardize the peace and security of the Turkish Cypriot people.
In a call to action, the Ministry urged all relevant parties, especially France, to refrain from actions that could compromise the security of the region and to act sensibly in resolving any disputes.
