Geographical Societies of Turkic States Sign Agreement to Establish Geographical Council
Geographical societies of six Turkic-speaking countries, including Uzbekistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, have signed an agreement to create the Geographical Council of the Turkic States, according to the National News Agency of Uzbekistan. The aim of the Council is to enhance comprehensive cooperation between research institutes and public associations of Turkic-speaking countries, and to work towards improving geographical and environmental knowledge of the public, popularizing advanced scientific ideas and achievements, and exploring the impact of climate change on the natural and social environment.
The new structure will be managed by the elected Secretary General, Oybek Norinbayev, who is also the head of the Geographical Society of Uzbekistan, for a tenure of three years. The headquarters will be based in Tashkent. The Council will engage in various international projects, including science, education, environmental education, economic approach, expansion of cooperation in the field of culture and tourism.
The Deputy Chairman of the Geographical Society of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Sharipov, emphasizes that the Council allows member states to conduct scientific research, exchange expertise, and launch new innovative projects in geography and science. The Geographical Council of the Turkic States is a positive step towards further aligning and enhancing cooperation between Turkic-speaking nations in a variety of fields.
