
Former Hungarian President Dies

Former Hungarian President and Constitutional Court President László Sólyom has passed away, according to a statement from his secretariat. Sólyom, who served as Hungary’s president from 2005 to 2010, died on Sunday after battling a long illness with remarkable strength, activity, and serenity.
President Katalin Novák expressed her condolences, saying, “May God rest László Sólyom in peace.” She highlighted Sólyom’s significant contributions as the first president of the Constitutional Court in shaping the country’s transition to democracy and establishing the constitutional framework that defines Hungarian lives today. Novák also expressed gratitude for the shared experiences with Sólyom.
To honor his memory, the national flag was lowered to half-mast at the presidential Sándor Palace.
