Artvin-Borçka Highway Closed Due to Landslide, Former Minister Faruk Çelik Stuck on Road
The Artvin-Borçka highway was closed to transportation as a result of a landslide, causing former Minister and AK Party Artvin Deputy Faruk Çelik to become stranded on the road. The incident took place as Çelik was on his way to Artvin as part of candidate promotion programs.
Reports indicate that the highway was shut down following a landslide at the exit of Sümbüllü Tunnel. The constant falling of large and small stones from the retaining wall on the upper side of the road made it unsafe for highway teams to continue their work to clear the debris.
Faruk Çelik, who was en route to Artvin as part of candidate promotion programs, found himself stranded on the road due to the landslides. After assessing the situation and gathering information, he eventually had to return to the city center via the village road, following a lengthy wait. As of now, there is no official statement regarding the expected timeframe for the reopening of the highway, which has been inaccessible to traffic for approximately 3 hours.
