Four out of Five New Power Plants Operational in TRNC to Meet rising Electricity Demand

Vice President of Turkey, Cevdet Yılmaz, has provided an update on the progress of mobile trailer power plants being established in the Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to meet the increasing demand for electricity consumption. Out of the 5 125-megawatt plants planned, 4 are already operational, with the 5th plant expected to be put into operation over the weekend.

The total investment in power increase operations is valued at 5.26 million euros, with the Electricity Production Corporation (EÜAŞ) contributing 17.26 million euros. Vice President Yılmaz emphasized the importance of integrating the island of Cyprus with Europe and the world through Turkey, as it would benefit the entire island.

During the “Energy Supply Security in the TRNC” meeting, Yılmaz highlighted the comprehensive discussion on the TRNC’s electricity issue, with a focus on short, medium, and long-term action plans. The Turkish Vice President expressed Turkey’s commitment to supporting the Turkish Cypriot people with technical and financial assistance, with a contract worth around 12 million euros signed for resolving energy problems.

Yılmaz also addressed the importance of a correct and fair political stance, applauding President Ersin Tatar’s realistic approach to the island’s situation. He stressed the need for a solution that recognizes the two states on the island and promotes equality between both sides.

Additionally, Yılmaz discussed the Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement between Turkey and the TRNC, highlighting the aim to support the economic and social development of the region. He emphasized the importance of technological advancements and international partnerships to enhance competitiveness and economic growth in the TRNC.
