Fraudsters Scam 5 Million Liras with Fake Car Ads

The Çorum Provincial Police Department’s Public Order Branch Directorate Pickpocketing-Fraud Bureau teams have taken action following a surge in reports of deposit fraud.
During a three-month investigation, three individuals identified as FK and Ş.A. were discovered to have been copying automobile advertisements from online advertising sites. They would then post fake sales ads at discounted prices, convincing people looking to purchase vehicles to transfer money as a “deposit” into their bank accounts. To avoid being traced, they used different bank accounts under the name AS.
These suspects managed to earn approximately 5 million lira by scamming 405 individuals across 37 provinces using the “deposit fraud” scheme. In a coordinated effort, two of the suspects were apprehended in Istanbul, while the third was caught in Hatay.
Following their arrests, the suspects were taken to the Çorum Provincial Police Department for questioning. After the completion of the necessary procedures at the police station, they were transferred to Çorum Courthouse.
This successful operation serves as a warning to those engaging in fraudulent activities, highlighting the diligent efforts of law enforcement in combating such crimes.
