Russia and Ukraine conduct a Prisoner Exchange
In a recent statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was announced that a successful prisoner exchange took place with Ukraine through the mediation efforts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to the statement, “90 Russian soldiers were handed over from the territories controlled by the Kiev administration. In return, 90 soldiers from the Ukrainian Armed Forces were released. The Russian soldiers will be transported to Moscow via planes to receive medical treatment at health facilities affiliated with the Ministry. Both medical and psychological support will be provided to the released soldiers.”
This is not the first time that Russia and Ukraine have engaged in a prisoner exchange. The efforts to facilitate the exchange were successful this time, thanks to the involvement of the UAE.
The two countries have a history of exchanging prisoners as a part of confidence-building measures and to ease tensions between them. Such exchanges are seen as a step towards peace and reconciliation between Russia and Ukraine.
It is hoped that this gesture of goodwill will contribute to improving relations between the two countries and lead to further cooperation in resolving their differences.
