Gallant Resigns from Parliament after Netanyahu Dismissal

Former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant has made a bold move in Israel by resigning from his parliamentary seat to protest the exemption of Ultra-Orthodox Jews (Haredis) from military service. Gallant, who was dismissed from his position by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated in a press release aired on Israeli state television KAN that he will remain a member of the Likud party.
In his announcement, Gallant criticized the government for supporting a law that exempts Haredim from military service, stating that it goes against the needs of the Israeli army and the security of the state. Despite his resignation, Gallant expressed his continued belief in the values of the Likud party.
The former Minister also highlighted his concerns about the government’s judicial reform, describing it as a “clear and present danger.” Gallant accused Yisrael Katz and Netanyahu of attempting to exempt Haredim from military service and stated that he could not support such a policy.
Gallant’s resignation came after a disagreement with Prime Minister Netanyahu over the controversial judicial reform and the recruitment of Haredi individuals into the military. Netanyahu dismissed Gallant on November 5, citing a loss of trust between them.
This bold move by Gallant has sparked discussions in Israel and raised questions about the government’s policies regarding military service and judicial reform. His decision to stand up for what he believes in has garnered both support and criticism from various sectors of society.
