The new minimum wage for Turkey has been officially announced and is set to be established as of January 1, 2024. Minister of Labor and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu has confirmed that an accord was unanimously reached in the second meeting to determine the new minimum wage. Effective from January 1, 2024, the minimum wage is fixed at 24 thousand TL monthly net and 27 thousand 587 TL gross.

Gardiyanoğlu emphasized that the determination of the minimum wage represents a crucial component for labor relations, unity, and integrity. He extended his thanks to both the employer and employee representatives for collaborating and reaching a consensus. Gardiyanoğlu emphasized that society needed such a compromise and acknowledged the dedication of the state wing in achieving this milestone.

Premium support to employers, currently at 25 percent, will be continued by the ministry and is set to be terminated on December 31, 2024. Further discussions about the minimum wage will be undertaken in the upcoming days to make it more current and in line with the present times, ensuring that it reflects the livelihoods of workers.

The employer side representative, Alp Cengiz Alp, expressed his optimism about the benefits that the new minimum wage will deliver. He elaborated on a series of favourable circumstances, including consensus on tax brackets, periodic meetings for minimum wage review, and a 52.38 percent increase granted, which he believes will enhance employees’ welfare.

Ahmet Serdaroğlu, representing the workers’ side, shared the hope that the new minimum wage will hold auspicious tidings. He emphasized the need for maintaining purchasing power to ensure the figures remain sustainable. Reflecting on a 50 percent increase and its possible impact, Serdaroğlu underscored the importance of preventing hikes in the market to avoid repetitive discussions on minimum wage revisions.

The negotiations showcased the goodwill of the participants, emphasizing the principle of mutual understanding and collaborative efforts for social peace. The ministers expressed his appreciation and good fortune in working alongside dedicated and caring employers and workers for the betterment of society.

The newly revised minimum wage for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) now stands at 18 thousand 103 TL monthly gross and 15 thousand 750 TL net since July 1, 2023, providing a benchmark for comparison and evaluation.
