Gaza War Spreads Across Four Countries: No Turning Back
The United States and Britain have declared war on the Houthis in an effort to secure maritime trade in the Red Sea. The New York Times has reported that the U.S. Army carried out an independent nighttime attack, hitting dozens of different points. The Houthis have vowed to respond strongly to these attacks.
The New York Times has also stated that the Houthis, who are considered one of Iran’s most important proxy forces, have successfully fulfilled their assigned task and are now using the USA for a regional war. The newspaper claims that Iran is attempting to spread the war between Israel and Hamas to the entire Middle East, and that Western countries have now launched attacks, signifying a point of no return.
According to Hugh Lovatt, a Middle East expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, the war is no longer limited to Israel-Gaza but has become a regional conflict that has spread to Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. French military analyst François Heisbourg has suggested that Iran is striving to become the leading actor in this regional war, while retired Lebanese General and analyst Amine Hoteit has noted that Israel’s attacks in Syria are aimed at keeping attention focused on that country and cutting off supply routes from Iran.
The effects of the conflict are being felt in Europe, as approximately 30 percent of the world’s container ships pass through the Red Sea. Volvo, Tesla, and other car brands in Europe have announced that they are suspending their production for an extended period due to the threat posed by the Houthis to world trade. As the conflict continues to escalate, it is evident that its repercussions are being felt on a global scale.
