General Assembly Focuses on Cyprus Issues

The latest developments in the Cyprus problem were discussed in the General Assembly of the Assembly. Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu mentioned an annoying development regarding the Organization of the Turkish States, but emphasized that they will not give up the two-state policies they advocate by morale.

CTP President Tufan Erhürman also shared his insights during the discussions, referencing the decisions of the UN Security Council 541 and 550. He highlighted the agreement between the EU and the Turkish states, as well as the decisions of the Security Council and the Republic of Cyprus, arguing for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus.

Erhürman pointed out the statements made by President Tatar and YDP Chairman Arıklı, claiming that the TRNC’s international and TDT meetings have been challenged. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu responded to criticism by acknowledging past mistakes but reaffirming the TRNC’s sovereign policy and the importance of protecting its status.

Ertuğruloğlu emphasized that the TRNC state and its permanence should be maintained, rejecting criticisms against the Republic of Cyprus. He also addressed the issue of UN decisions, stating that compliance is not mandatory and penalties are not enforced for non-compliance.

Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Erhan Ariklı, expressed sadness over the Turkic Republics signing the Semerkant Declaration and opening embassies in Southern Cyprus. He criticized the Turkic Republics for disregarding their own internal problems while succumbing to pressure from the EU.

Ariklı urged for the TRNC to be recognized when the conditions are ripe, stressing the need for maturity in resolving the ongoing Cyprus issue. The discussions at the General Assembly shed light on the complexities and challenges faced in finding a lasting solution to the Cyprus problem.
