“General Assembly Proceeds with Business”

The General Assembly of the Assembly of the Republic is currently discussing the Draft Law on Cooperation in the Fields of Health and Medical Sciences between the Government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Government of the Republic of Turkey. However, there are concerns about the content of the protocol, particularly the involvement of private companies and the transfer of unlimited powers to them.
Several MPs have criticized both the timing and the content of the protocol. CTP Deputy Ceyhun Birici criticized the fact that the protocol was signed in 2022 but only brought to the parliament now, and also pointed out that the items in the protocol were not filled in. Rogers Independent Member of Parliament Jale Refik Rogers argued that the government should do more than just condemn the violence against healthcare workers, and criticized the inclusion of the private company USAŞ in the agreement.
CTP Deputy Sıla Usar İncirli argued that the country should solve its own data collection problems and create a protocol in line with needs, and criticized the inclusion of traditional and complementary medicine. Lefty CTP Deputy Product Solyalı argued that the protocol started and ended incorrectly, and criticized the lack of sharing the protocol with the relevant stakeholders. Sea CTP Deputy Doğuş Derya criticized the involvement of private companies in the agreements between the two states and the transfer of various data of countries with protocols.
Shahali CTP Deputy Erkut Şahali expressed his belief that the TRNC did not make the slightest contribution to the protocol discussed today. MPs have criticized the lack of transparency surrounding the protocol and have emphasized the importance of protecting the fundamental right of health.
