German Christmas Market Attacker Identified in Seven Investigations

A recent article in the German press has shed light on the background of the attacker responsible for the tragic incident that took place at a Christmas market. According to reports, the attacker, identified as Abdulmohsen, was previously known to German authorities due to his involvement in various investigations.

The news revealed that Abdulmohsen’s name had come up in seven separate investigations between April 2023 and October 2024. In five of these cases, he was the complainant, while in the other two, he was the accused. One investigation was launched after Abdulmohsen made critical remarks about Germany and issued threats regarding their treatment of refugees from Saudi Arabia on social media platform X.

Furthermore, Abdulmohsen was also accused of threatening his lawyer, the lawyer’s family, and employees in a different case. As a result, the police conducted a “risk assessment interview” with him, aiming to inform him of potential consequences for his actions and advise him on certain behaviors to avoid.

Despite working at a hospital in Bernburg since 2020, where he was responsible for the psychiatric care of patients with addictive behaviors, no information was exchanged between the police and his employer regarding the investigations and risk assessment.

The tragic incident occurred on December 20, 2024, when a vehicle attack at the Christmas market resulted in the loss of five lives and left over 200 people injured. Following the attack, Saudi Arabian-born doctor Taleb al-Abdulmohsen was detained and later arrested on December 22.

As investigations continue into the motives behind the attack, the German authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to this devastating incident.
