German Minister States AfD Will Not Join Patriots for Europe Soon

Government Extends Rural Home Renovation Program to Pensioners

During the weekly government briefing on Thursday, Minister Gergely Gulyás and government spokesperson Eszter Vitályos announced the extension of the Rural Home Renovation Program to pensioners. The program, previously available to other citizens, will now be accessible to pensioners as well.

Under the new decision, the state will pay half of the renovation costs, up to a ceiling of six million forints (approximately 14,800 euros). The remaining amount can be covered by a preferential loan subsidized by the state at three percent interest. This initiative aims to support pensioners in maintaining and renovating their homes.

In addition to the program extension, Minister Gulyás addressed concerns about the so-called 13th month pension, which is under scrutiny from Brussels. Despite pressure to limit and reform the pension, the government has decided to reject these proposals, stating that they are not accepted.

Regarding an upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and German AfD leader Alice Weidel, Minister Gulyás clarified that while the Hungarian government does not align with all aspects of the AfD party, the opportunity for a meeting is extended due to the party’s significant support in Germany. However, he noted that in the short term, there is no possibility for the AfD to join the Patriots for Europe coalition.

On the topic of protests in Slovakia and Serbia, Minister Gulyás highlighted the presence of NGOs in these countries that receive support from Brussels and aim to influence political outcomes. He emphasized the stability of the Hungarian government against such external influences and expressed hope that these organizations would recognize the differences between Hungary and its neighboring states.

Overall, the government’s decision to extend the Rural Home Renovation Program to pensioners demonstrates a commitment to supporting senior citizens in maintaining their homes and quality of life.
