German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s Visit to Icherisheher
President of Germany Visits Icherisheher, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
On April 2, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, and First Lady Elke Budenbender paid a visit to Icherisheher (Inner City), one of the most distinguished cultural heritage monuments in the world. The visit was reported by AZERTAC.
The German President’s tour began with a visit to the Maiden Tower, a historical architectural marvel that dates back to the 7th-6th centuries BC and was restored in the 12th century. The tower, which stands at 28 meters in height and 16-16.5 meters in diameter, features a cylindrical structure and a large supporting base.
During their visit, President Steinmeier and First Lady Büdenbender were provided with information about the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve, which is recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List. They were also briefed on the current landscaping and restoration projects taking place within the site.
The tour concluded with a visit to the Shirvanshahs’ Palace Complex, a prominent example of Eastern medieval architecture with global significance.
The visit by the President of Germany highlights the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage sites around the world. Icherisheher continues to attract visitors from all corners of the globe, showcasing the rich history and architectural achievements of Azerbaijan.
