Rıza Akpolat, the Mayor of Beşiktaş, was born in Istanbul in 1982 to a tradesman family from Erzincan. With a solid educational background, he graduated from Sakarya University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in 2004. However, his journey to becoming the mayor of one of Istanbul’s most vibrant districts was not just a result of his academic achievements.
Throughout his career, Akpolat has been actively involved in politics, serving in various roles within the Republican People’s Party Istanbul Youth Branches. He has also held positions such as District Vice President and District President, gaining valuable experience and knowledge along the way. His dedication and hard work eventually led him to become the Istanbul Provincial Deputy Chairman.
In the March 31, 2019 elections, Rıza Akpolat ran for the position of Beşiktaş Mayor and achieved an impressive victory with a record 73% of the votes. This overwhelming support from the residents of Beşiktaş solidified his position as a beloved leader in the community.
Apart from his professional accomplishments, Akpolat is also a family man. He is the proud father of two daughters and married former CHP Istanbul Women’s Branch President Yeşim Yankılıç on July 21, 2024.
